New York City is known for many amazing things, including its iconic skyscrapers. There are proposed plans to build more skyscrapers in New York City. Two must-visit skyscrapers that a visitor should see are the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center.
Empire State Building
The Empire State building(ESRT), a building ubiquitous with the image of New York City, was built from 1929 to 1931. It is 1,250 feet high. It was the largest building in the city of New York for forty years up until 1972—when the World Trade Center’s North Tower was completed. When the Twin Towers fell on September 11th, 2001, the Empire State building became the tallest building once more. However, throughout the 2000s and 2010s, other buildings have been built that exceed the height of the Empire State Building. The Empire State Building was designated a U.S. National Landmark on June 14th, 1986, and added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 17th, 1982. It even has its own zip code—10118.
The top of the Empire State Building broadcasts most of New York City’s FM radio stations and commercial television stations. Various famous companies are tenants in the Empire State Building, including Shutterstock, LinkedIn, Skanska and Global Brands Group. One can find many images online of various celebrities on the observation deck. The list of celebrities who visited the observation deck includes Alan Ruck, Abigail Breslin, Alberto Del Rio, Ashanti, Ariana Grande, Blink 182 and many others.
One World Trade Center
One World Trade Center is currently the tallest building in NYC. It was completed in 2014, to replace the World Trade Centers that were struck down on September 11th, 2001. One World Trade Center is 1,776 feet with its spire, and 1,368 feet without its spire. In three upper floors of the tower, there is the One World Observatory. The observatory gives a 360 degree view of the outside from 1,250 feet up in the air. The complex also includes three restaurants, a Sky Portal and an exhibit called Voices. Voices is an exhibit about the construction of One World Trade Center. The Sky Portal is a circular platform that shows live footage of street scenes on the ground level.
One World Trade Center has seen many celebrity visitors. These visitors include Priyanka Chopra, Olivia Wilde, Jessica Alba, Coco Rocha and others.
